When we bought the property, we had no idea what we were getting into. The previous owner of this 1/2 in BV was Charles and Stella McKelvie. He was originally from North Dakota, she was a farmgirl from Scott City, Kansas. They were married in 1947 and moved into this remodeled cabin in the former Midland Stop of the three train lines that converged in Buena Vista - the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad, the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, and the Colorado Midland Railroad.

This cabin was moved to the property in the year 1879, that we know.

But the property was moved to the site that year, the structure we believe is older. Since 1947, this property has been owned and occupied by one family - the Stella and Charles McKelvie. They moved to the property from Scott City, Kansas after Charles was discharged from WW2. They immediately went to work renovating the house, adding new siding, windows, and a new roof. As we began to tear that work out in October of 2015, was that their renovation was completed upon an older renovation from 1902. We know all of this from the newspapers that were found in the walls and ceilings of the house.

Research:

There's a possibility that this may be the first post office in BV. Research ongoing.
