There are a number of trails, logging roads, and single tracks between BV and Salida. There are MTB sanctioned races throughout the summer, including the Super Bowl of mountain biking - the Leadville MTB100. As far as hiking goes, Cottonwood Pass is less than 30 minutes from the cabin and there are literally hundreds of other day trips to choose from.
